Course TTb: The Engineering of Reliable Embedded Systems (online)
Course TTb has a focus on the use of ‘Time-Triggered‘ (TT) architectures to support the development of software for safe and reliable embedded systems.
- TTb is available as a self-paced online training course (based on pre-recorded videos) as described on this page;
- TTb can also be delivered to your team as a live online course (via Zoom or equivalent) – please contact us for details.

Who should take this course?
Course TTb covers the core techniques that are needed to design and implement TT software for use in safety-related embedded systems.
- Taking Course TTb will be of particular benefit to organisations that need to develop software for embedded systems in compliance with international safety standards, such as IEC 61508, ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 62304, ISO 13849, IEC 60335 and IEC 60730, up to ‘SIL 3’ / ‘ASIL D’ level or equivalent.
- Taking Course TTb will be of particular benefit to organisations that are ReliabiliTTy® licensees (or to organisations that are intending to become ReliabiliTTy licensees).
Course TTb discusses technology that is patented by SafeTTy Systems Ltd and is subject to copyright and other restrictions.
The techniques discussed in Course TTb, the public TTRDs downloaded from this website and the designs and techniques documented in the ERES book series may be used without charge: [i] by universities and colleges in courses for which a degree up to and including “MSc” level (or equivalent) is awarded; [ii] for non-commercial projects carried out by individuals and hobbyists.
Use of the techniques and code examples described in Course TTb or the ERES books in any commercial project (including training courses) or in university research projects (including PhD-level programmes and equivalent) requires purchase of a ReliabiliTTy® Technology Licence.
Please contact us if you have any questions about these licence arrangements.
The benefits of online training
Since 2014, we’ve delivered our popular on-site TTb course to many organisations across the world: so far, we’ve introduced around 200 engineers to the use of TT software architectures in safety-related systems by means of this 3-day course, with a class size of around 6 people being typical.
We appreciate that for individuals and small teams, on-site training can be a little expensive. We also appreciate that it can be difficult for any organisation to have their whole development team attend a training course at the same time.
To address these problems, we introduced an online version of our TTb course as a flexible and cost-effective alternative to on-site training.
The online TTb course is based on a series of 28 videos (almost 10 hours in total).
The videos are freely available on our YouTube channel; please see the following playlist.
As with the on-site course, the content of the videos follows the ‘ERES2‘ book closely.
How to join this course (standard online package)
To join this course, you’ll need:
- a copy of our ERES2 book;
- a copy of the ‘TTb Course Notes‘;
- visit our YouTube channel and review the following playlist.
Is there a registration process?
To get started, there is no formal registration process.
All you need to do is buy a copy of the ‘ERES2‘ book and the TTb Course Notes.
The videos and associated course notes will then guide you through the material presented in the ERES2 book, at your own pace.
Support and examination option
The standard TTb online training package:
- does not include exercises or any form of one-to-one support for course participants; and,
- is not intended to meet the full requirements for completion of Level 2 in the SafeTTy Certified programme.
If you have a team of 4+ people that wishes to complete the Level 2 exams, we suggest that you consider an ‘on-site’ course.
