Our SafeTTy Solutions™ packages are designed to help your development team produce a safety-related embedded system quickly and cost-effectively, in compliance with one or more international safety standards (IEC 61508, ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 62304, IEC 60730 …).
SafeTTy Solutions packages are based on TT designs and include carefully-selected combinations of our various products and services.
SafeTTy Solutions packages include an appropriate ReliabiliTTy® licence.
We give an example of a typical SafeTTy Solutions package on this page. We can also provide fully customised solution packages on request (to match your precise requirements): please contact us for details.
The majority of our customers purchase a SafeTTy Solutions package after completing a Taster Day (but this is not a formal requirement).[This page was last updated: 2017-06-09]
Reducing business risks as you develop your first safety-related embedded system
In our experience, the main challenge facing organisations developing their first safety-related embedded system is that they underestimate the work required to achieve compliance with the relevant international standards (including the need for comprehensive test & verification processes, the creation of suitable paperwork, and the ability to support auditing processes – that is, a ‘paper trail’).
- we would expect development of a ‘SIL 2’ / ‘ASIL B / ASIL C’ (or equivalent) design to take around twice as long as the development of an ‘equivalent’ design that was not safety related;
- we would expect development of a ‘SIL 3’ / ‘ASIL D’ (or equivalent) design to take around twice as long as the development of an ‘equivalent’ ”SIL 2′ / ‘ASIL B / ASIL C’ design.
If the additional load imposed by safety requirements is not taken into account, this can result in significant project delays, a stressed and demoralised team, staff changes – and further delays …
To avoid such problems, it is important to be clear about the likely project timescales and costs up front, and to employ an appropriate way of engineering the system (so as to simplify the processes of test & verification, the creation of paperwork, and the certification process itself).
Through use of an appropriate SafeTTy Solution package, we can introduce your team to an industry-proven approach to the development of safety-related embedded systems. We can then work with your team as they go through the key stages of creating their first product. This can help to significantly reduce your business risk.
The end result of applying a SafeTTy Solution package is likely to be a smoother, faster and more predictable process of product development – and retention of a well-trained and experienced team that is looking forward to their next safety project.
Improving product reliability and reducing time to market
For experienced development teams, we can help you to improve product reliability and complete the certification process more quickly.
There is no ‘magic’ to these benefits: they are achieved through the application of modern TT software architectures, and are widely recognised.
For example, according to IEC 61508 international safety standard:
- TT architectures are “Highly Recommended” for systems of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 or above. [IEC 61508-3 (2010), Table A.2]
- Use of a TT architecture “Greatly reduces the effort required for testing and certifying the system” [IEC 61508-3 (2010), Table C.1]
You can learn more about the links between TT architectures and various international safety standards on our Technology page.
Members of our team have been involved in the creation of successful TT designs for more than two decades. Over this period, we’ve developed several highly-effective new design solutions: these have allowed our customers to obtain the benefits of a TT approach in products ranging from satellite systems to household goods.
Through the SafeTTy Solutions programme, we can help your team too.
Typical SafeTTy Solutions package
